Craft Happy... Craft Room Makeover Progress Report

My craft room has been undergoing a complete makeover for awhile now. I've added several new things so I thought it was time to update you with a progress report. Although this isn't the full grand reveal, this will show you much of the progress that has been made... Note: I'm working on a few different projects in addition to this room. So, I'm a bit slow between updates... Please bare with me!

Recent updates include the black trim molding that we've added around the peg board. I also put simple black curtains under the desk area. I used an inexpensive cafe rod and hooks and recessed the rod about 10 inches back from the edge of the desk top (leaving room for my legs to sit comfortably underneath when I sit here. The curtains hide the ugly oak storage shelf that I put underneath. (see video at the bottom of post to see the curtains operate). The old oak shelving unit that is hidden underneath actually works as the support for the table top. I wanted the appearance of a free floating desk... without any legs on the corners to get in the way.  We used "L" brackets to fasten the back to the wall so it can't tip forward.  It came out even better than I thought it would!  

I found this great 5' x 7' black and white graphic rug for only $27 at Ross. It provides a nice pop of contrast to the floor.

My First Blog Video (Yikes).. Craft Room Makeover Update

I have decided to start making videos to better show you my decorating and DIY projects as I work on them and reveal them.  I will still have photos of my projects, but also video updates so you can fully see and hear about what I am working on.  

Yesterday I decided to shoot a sample video to see if I was even capable of creating something interesting without stuttering all over the place (lol)... I didn't plan on my first attempt at making a video to be something I would actually publish...  Hence, the hair in a ponytail with a baseball cap and lack of makeup.  I was not necessarily what I would call  "camera ready".  But since I surprised myself that I actually could talk to the camera and make sense...  I decided to go ahead and post my first video.  

Today I figured out how to made a few little edits to the video, created a YouTube Channel and posted the video on both my YouTube channel and here on my blog.  I feel so accomplished :)

Craft Happy - Another Peek at My Craft Room Makeover

I'm making a ton of progress in my craft room.  We have installed a peg board above my work table and some additional organizers for ribbons and small stuff.  I love these organizers!  I got both the Ribbon Organizer and the Tool Organizer.  I've still got a ways to go before revealing the entire craft room to you, but I wanted to share how awesome these little organizers are... I got four of them running across the top of my work table, just below my new peg board.  

I love that I can now see all of my craft supplies!

  

Craft Room Overhaul - Sneak Peek

Here is a sneak peek of what is happening in my craft room.  The picture isn't great as it is from my cell phone, but you can see that I am getting organized... and when I am done, I will be able to actually do crafts in my craft room!  

On New Years Day I mentioned that we are giving my craft room (which has pretty much been my storage/hoarding room for over a year now) a complete clean-out and makeover.  A few inexpensive storage and organizing systems are going in and I am working at getting through all of the collectibles (lol... clutter).  When I get further along in the progress I will share some before and after pictures.  The before pictures of the room are so scary that I don't want to scare anyone away :)  

The transformation is already amazing, but there is a long way to go...  Seriously I had like 40 boxes of stuff to go through...  I have been making piles to trash, donate and keep... and if it's something I want to keep, I then get to figure out how/where it is going to go in the room.  If I don't have room for it, I can't keep it.  

It will be a couple of weeks before the project is complete, but it will be worth it!

Craft Room Organizing - Cute Storage Bins

My craft room has so much potential, but honestly lately it has been total chaos!!!  It has become my "someday craft project storage room".  My "to do" projects have pretty much infiltrated our home one room at a time and seem to be taking over.  I have been trying to get all of my crafts and projects back into the craft room where they belong and get them organized... and I am making some progress, but I still have a ways to go.  

This week I found these awesome canvas storage bins at Marshalls for $10 each and I picked up six of them (two of each print).  I think they are super cute, so I had to grab them all!  Honestly, I didn't even know how I was going to use them at first.  I just figured that if I didn't use them all, I could return whatever I didn't use.

The first two bins I decided to use for gift bags, tissue paper and bow storage. 

I hung little tags on each rope handle and labeled what is in each tote. 

I previously used these same tags as labels on little baskets I used to organize some of my small items (shown below).

The black shelving units I already had in my craft room. They came from our prior house where we used them in our garage.  I would love to someday have built in's, but these work well for now.

In these other two bins, I've put shipping boxes and wrapping paper.

So when you look at the bins on the shelves I look so organized, but when you look around the room (in this next picture), you can see that I am not there yet!!!  I am a totally embarrassed to show you my chaotic mess, but here it is. 

Yes, I have $5 plastic yard chairs in my craft room.  Don't make fun of them... When you put a pillow under your butt they are actually quite comfortable (hehe).  Someday I will find something better, but for now they work just fine.

As for that towel on the floor.  I was painting glaze onto a frame and didn't want to get it on the carpet and I just haven't gotten around to folding it yet :)

I am grateful to have this room so I can close the door when company comes.  But I'm sharing it with all of you in an attempt to force myself to get it fully organized!  

This week I also found these cool little glass jars, known as anything jars, to store all of my small goodies in.  Things like paper clips, buttons, safety pins, small scrap-booking gadgets and gizmos... you get the idea.  I love this craft storage shelf!  It's not actually on the wall yet, but someday it will be.

I still have a bunch of organizing to do, but it feels really good making a dent in my many piles and seeing the progress!
